Oluyemisi Awoniyi is growing as a designer, a voice, and a woman finding her footing in the built environment.
Oluyemisi Awoniyi is a registered architect in Nigeria (ARCON) and a full member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects. She trained at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, completing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and then a Master of Architecture, where she was named third best graduating student and best student in the M.Arch II design studio. She lives in Stoke-on-Trent.
After early practice with GHK Architects in Lagos, she spent November 2011 to May 2019 as Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing in Ogun State, leading the design team on public work that included the Ogun State Judiciary Complex, Totoro Health Centre, and the 170-hectare PMB estate at Kobape. Alongside that role, she supervised the construction of the Centenary Hall at the Cathedral Church of St Paul, Sagamu, as secretary of its technical committee. From 2019 to 2023 she was lead architect at Spacevibes Limited, carrying Mothercare Preparatory School, Gemini Plaza and other live projects. She has also taught architectural design at Federal Polytechnic Ede, and she has returned to Obafemi Awolowo University as a guest critic for the Master of Architecture jury.
Her United Kingdom chapter began with an MSc in BIM-enabled sustainable buildings at the University of Northampton, awarded with distinction in 2024. Her dissertation studied how energy modelling and life-cycle assessment can help commercial buildings cut carbon. Alongside her studies, she spoke at a Green Building Council of Nigeria webinar and contributed to the Nigeria Built Environment Carbon Database. She then gained UK experience with Rider Levett Bucknall in Birmingham and Giws Associates in Essex, where her work included alterations to a Grade II listed church. Since June 2025 she has been a Project Officer at the National Energy Foundation in Milton Keynes, working on retrofit and household energy advice. She also contributed to the organisation’s successful ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation.
She is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, a full member of the Association for Project Management and a LEED Green Associate, and she serves on the Constitution Review Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, UK Chapter. Architecture remains a chapter she returns to. It is not the whole book, and this site is where that path stays visible. She is open to projects, partnerships and conversations with people who care about how we build, and who we become while we do it.
